DAF Trucks awards top apprentices

DAF Trucks announced its 2014 dealer apprentices of the year at a ceremony last week in Bristol.
Prior to the ceremony, 10 finalists for each year took part in a series of timed tasks to test their ability and find the overall winners. Assessors from DAF's training partner Skillnet and the City of Bristol College were responsible for the final decision. The graduating third year winner was Thomas Ford (pictured) of Ford & Slater DAF in Leicester; second year winner was Dexter Truscott, of Wessex DAF in Devon; and the first year prize went to Andrew Baber, from Chassis Cab Bury St Edmunds. The apprenticeship combines practical and theoretical study at college, with on-the-job training at a DAF dealership. Apprentices attend City of Bristol College for a total of 28 weeks during the three-year programme, which is managed for DAF Trucks by Skillnet Automotive Academy. On completion, apprentices emerge with an Advanced Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
