The Thompsons Group has purchased Weightlifter Scotland from the Weightlifter Group.

Effective Friday 7 July 2017, truck bodybuilder Thompsons has taken over all the staff and assets of the previous Weightlifter Scotland business at Royal Elizabeth Yard at Dalmeny.

Thompsons will now base its Scottish operation at this location to ensure a virtually seamless transition to the benefit of all parties, not least customers and employees. Established as Thompsons Tippers Scotland Ltd, the new company now offers a wider than ever product range of rigid bodies in the Scottish marketplace.

Commenting upon the recent purchase, Thompsons director Simon Shields notes: “Weightlifter Scotland has built up an enviable track record at the very forefront of the Scottish tipper bodybuilding industry. We are therefore delighted to have the opportunity to combine our strengths and build a new business in Scotland that’s stronger than ever, whilst also delivering the very minimum disruption to our customers and employees.

“At Thompsons we have always held a particular respect for the whole Weightlifter Company which, in consequence, has made this deal notably uncomplicated and straightforward.”

For Weightlifter, Paul Weightman says that the deal puts the company in a stronger position to develop further its operations in Scunthorpe -- Weightlifter Bodies -- and at Wisbech, where it has traded as PPG Fabrications.
