Alexander Dennis picks up clutch of orders for latest bus models06 May 2014

Bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis (ADL) is reporting £80 million of UK orders for its latest model, the Enviro400, as well as export deals worth £175m for the Enviro500.

The Falkirk-based business is currently launching the Enviro400 into the UK and the orders, totalling 400 buses, are from operators including Go-Ahead, Stagecoach, Reading Transport and National Express.

ADL says it worked with 70 operators to fine-tune the design of the latest model, which is 400kg lighter, more fuel efficient, has greater seating capacity, and has been equipped with a new heating and ventilation system.

Improved maintenance features include higher opening of the tail-gate and removable side doors to the power unit. The electrical system is now a fully multiplexed design and is housed in one distribution centre on the upper deck.

Additionally, the new wiring system has shorter sections, which can be replaced more easily.

The vehicle also has improved access to the wiper motor and fuel tank, which can both be removed from inside the bus.

The latest export wins for 600 Enviro500 buses – launched 18 months ago – bring the total to 1,400 in use in overseas markets.
