AvantiGas LPG optimises logistics with Route Monkey system07 March 2016

Chesterfield-based LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) supplier AvantiGas says it is now optimising its logistics thanks to a Route Monkey full scheduling and route optimisation package.

The firm, which has a network of 15 distribution centres nationwide and a substantial HGV tanker fleet, now has a largely automated system, which, according to logistics manager Andrew Cauldwell is helping to improve transport planning.

“We found that our previous scheduling tool wasn’t fit for purpose,” explains Cauldwell, adding that it wasn’t just about fuel efficiency but also enhancing both customer service and how the organisation fulfils its duty of care to drivers.

“We put Route Monkey through a really intensive trial period that included benchmarking both a fully and part-automated system against our existing manual planning,” he continues.

“We were impressed with the results and have chosen a hybrid system to best meet our operational needs.”
