Continental launches mixed-road tyre with 17% longer service life10 June 2014

Continental has launched a new family of tyres, the Conti Hybrid, designed for regional distribution on roads and motorways.

The first of the new range in 22.5-inch format is the Conti Hybrid HS3, a steer axle tread for universal use.

A thick new tread design with high wear volume promises a 17% longer service life, says the manufacturer.

The larger 'plus volume' pattern used for the HS3's tread also reduces rolling resistance caused by flexing, making the Conti Hybrid HS3 ideal for transport schedules on different road types.

Pocket sipes inserted diagonally into the base of the tread optimise performance in wet conditions. The HS3 also has closed shoulders to enable manoeuvrable, while reducing movement within the tread design. A new rubber compound in the sidewall helps reduce the build-up of tyre temperature, resulting in lower fuel consumption.

Service life is prolonged, says Continental, thanks to a solid reinforced premium casing, increased tread material, four-layer triangular belts and a robust bead construction.

The load capacity has also been adapted for the heavier weight of Euro 6 trucks.

The Conti Hybrid HS3 steering axle in 22-inch format will be available in eight dimensions by the end of the year.
