Creative Technology rates head-turning Mercedes Atego 17 March 2016

AV equipment specialist Creative Technology has taken delivery of a Mercedes-Benz Atego 1524L 15-tonner built to perform – and turn heads.

Finished in the Crawly, Sussex-based firm’s black livery with yellow and white branding, the truck was specified with a range-topping, high-roofed L BigSpace sleeper cab.

Its 6.0m GRP box body is by Solent Bodybuilders, of Fareham, which also fitted the cab roof-top air deflector and side wings, as well as a Ratcliff 1,500 kg column tail-lift.

“The Atego’s best-in-class high-roof cab with double bunk is both spacious and comfortable for our crews, who can be away for several days and even weeks at a time,” comments Creative’s director of operations Marc Butterworth. .

Pointing to his two other Mercedes-Benz 15-tonners, he adds: “These trucks are ideally suited to servicing older venues, many of which are in London, that don’t have big exhibition delivery spaces.”

Butterworth says Creative has tried 7.5-tonners in the past but their payload wasn’t up to the job.

“The 15-tonne Mercedes-Benz is a perfect compromise, in that it’s relatively compact while also offering a productive carrying capacity,” he explains.

Creative Technology’s new truck was specified with the 238bhp six-cylinder engine driving through a PowerShift 3 AMT (automated manual transmission).

“It’s the first time we’ve gone for the semi-automatic gearbox and the feedback from the driver has been entirely positive,” states Butterworth.

Acquired with funding support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, the new truck is the subject of a Mercedes-Benz Service Contract and will be inspected and maintained at Rossetts Commercials’ Crawley dealership.
