FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Service celebrates 50 years 27 September 2016

FTA’s (Freight Transport Association) Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) is now 50 years old – and marking its half century at an event at Volvo, Warwick today (27 September 2016).

In 1966 VIS was launched with five engineers – a figure that has now risen to a national team of 90 together offering more than 11 industry services.

According to June Powell, FTA head of operations, this year VIS will have carried out some 66,000 vehicle inspections, training courses, irtec technician accreditation registrations, as well as PSV, van and DEFRA inspections.

“I am delighted to be celebrating this fantastic achievement and to have the opportunity to recognise the contribution our multi skilled, and highly professional team provide to industry,” says Powell.

The FTA VIS service offers a range of services to ensure that commercial vehicles, related equipment and maintenance processes are safe, efficient and legally compliant.

The enormous contribution VIS has made to the freight and logistics industry has been recognised over the years, most recently receiving the Motor Transport Award and a Prince Michael Road Safety Award.
