Glass haulier finds clear benefits with contract hire of Mercedes Actros03 March 2014

Glass haulier Offergeld Logistik UK has added 10 Euro 5 Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545 LS 6x2 44-tonne tractor units to its expanding fleet.

Supplied on contract hire from Ryder, the new tractor units operate with Goole-based Offergeld Logistik's fleet of Inloader glass trailers.

The company decided to go down the contract hire route, after facing rising repair costs with its ageing vehicles which it had purchased.

"After initially renting trucks from Ryder for two years as an interim measure, we concluded that contract hire provided us with the most cost-effective solution," comments Phil Ellis, Offergeld's general manager.

"After evaluating a number of vehicle specifications, we opted for the new Actros as it returned the best fuel mileage figures and it was our drivers' truck of choice," Ellis adds.

Offergeld Logistik worked with Ryder to reduce the Actros units' unladen weight, by specifying weight-saving components such as aluminium wheels and fuel tanks.
