MAN gets behind RHA National Lorry Week in Scotland 22 October 2015

MAN is backing the RHA’s (Road Haulage Association) national campaign to raise the profile of road transport during next week’s National Lorry Week (26—31 October) – taking trucks to events across Scotland.

“This campaign is a brilliant way of putting drivers and their vehicles in the spotlight, and highlighting the fantastic and varied work that they do day in day out on our roads,” comments MAN regional sales manager Roger Turnbull.

Simon Elliott, managing director of MAN Truck & Bus UK, says the decision to get involved follows the company’s own research into attitudes among young people increasingly using online shopping.

“industry must work closely with the government to find solutions that not only shake-up HGV training but tackle the poor image the industry has amongst school leavers,” he says.

“Our research showed that 93% of women and 86% of men shop online. This is a trend that is not going to go away, so how will these items be delivered in the future?”

As part of National Lorry Week and the Love the Lorry campaign, MAN and hauliers, including operators and drivers, will be allowing the public to see first-hand what life is like in the cab.

MAN will be displaying vehicles at Love the Lorry events at: Inverness Football Club from 4pm to 6pm on 26 October; RHA Livingston from 3pm to 5pm on 27 October; Falkirk Football Club (where MAN is a sponsor) from 3pm to 5pm on 29 October and from noon to 2pm on 31 October.

The RHA campaign has been developed to demonstrate to the public and politicians the vital role that lorries and road freight play in moving the economy and daily life.
