Michelin’s all round fuel saving24 September 2010

Following the launch of its new trailer tyre, Michelin says it can now offer a complete set of tyres that offer more than just fuel savings to truck operators.

The introduction of the Michelin X Energy Savegreen trailer tyre at the IAA in Hanover, means that it is possible to fit all five truck axles with the same range.

Pete Selleck, president of Michelin's global truck tyre development effort, says that by fitting the tyres on as standard, fleets could expect to save one million litres of fuel a year and 2.6 million grams of CO2, based on tyres that run for one million kilometers.

The development of the tyre range comes after the results of a study conducted by market research company GMV involving 739 transport companies. In it, Michelin found that the main issues operators were worried about were fleet reliability and the safety of the goods they are transporting, and not environmental factors.

As a result, Selleck decided to help them out on all fronts. "We wanted our development people to deliver a tyre that improves on fuel efficiency but also delivers on safety and longevity," he said. "We've achieved a breakthrough in performance because we continue to focus on customer needs and combine those with our passion for innovation."
